Trochanteric Bursitis

Trochanteric bursitis is characterised by inflammation of the bursa. The trochanteric bursa is located on the outer side of the hip and acts as a cushion between the bone and soft tissues.

This condition often occurs due to repetitive movements or overuse of the hip joint. It can also result from direct trauma or underlying conditions like hip arthritis or obesity.

Symptoms of trochanteric bursitis include pain and tenderness on the outer side of the hip, difficulty with activities like walking or climbing stairs, pain that worsens with prolonged activity, and swelling or redness in the affected area.

Treatment for trochanteric bursitis typically involves rest, avoiding activities that aggravate the symptoms, applying ice or heat to the affected area, taking over-the-counter pain medications.

In more severe cases, corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation or physiotherapy can be helpful at improving symptoms. In rare cases where conservative treatments fail, surgical intervention may be necessary to remove or repair the bursa.

Abductor Tendinopathy

Abductor tendinopathy refers to a chronic inflammation of the abductor tendons, primarily Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus. It is typically caused by overuse, repetitive motions, or aging, causing the tendons to become inflamed, degenerate, or develop small tears.

Treatment for tendinopathy usually begins with conservative measures, including rest, ice or heat therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and eccentric physiotherapy whereby the muscles are stretched under load to try and promote healing and improve tendon function.

Injections of corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief while the physiotherapy takes effect can be helpful in some cases.

In severe or persistent cases where conservative treatments are ineffective, surgery may be considered to repair or remove damaged tissue. However, surgery is usually considered a last resort.

Soft Tissue Reconstruction About The Hip

Soft tissue reconstruction around the hip typically involves surgical procedures aimed at repairing or reconstructing damaged or compromised soft tissues, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues, in the hip region. These procedures are often performed to address injuries, deformities, or conditions affecting the soft tissues around the hip joint. The specific type of reconstruction will depend on the nature and extent of the soft tissue damage.
